Florida Mold Related Services
ENFORCEMENT BEGINS JULY 1, 2011
Visit the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's Mold Related Services webpage for additional information.
Attention Mold Assessors and Remediators:
Chapter 468, Part XVI of the Florida Statues and Rule 61-31 of the Florida Administrative Code for Mold Related Services became effective on July 1, 2010. If your company provides mold assessment or remediation services, you will be required to be licensed by the State of Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Enforcement of the new requirements will begin July 1, 2011.
Who are Considered Mold Assessors and Remediators?
A Mold Assessor is a person who performs physical sampling and detailed evaluation of data obtained from building history and inspection to formulate an initial hypothesis about the origin, identity, location, and extent amplification of mold growth greater than 10 square feet or supervises a mold assessor.
A Mold Remediator performs cleaning, sanitiing, demolition, or other treatment, including preventative activities, of mold or mold-contaminated matter of greater than 10 square feet that was not purposely grown at that location, as long as that work does not require a license under Chapter 489.
What Do I Need to Do to Become Licensed?
Mold Assessor and Remediators can become licensed by examination, grandfathering, or endorsement. Visit the Florida DBPR Mold Related Services website to find out details on education, experience, and certification requirements. All applicants must submit to a criminal background check and submit and application and fee to the Florida DBPR.
